The Shetland pony is named after its home, the Scottish island. Raw weather conditions and a lack of food in this region has developed the breed into an extremely robust race. This race was able to prove its strength in mining and farming which was much appreciated. Today Shetland ponies fullfil a whole range of tasks. They are presented at horse shows by adults and children, are used in petting zoos and as guide horses and present tricks at fairs. These ponies are good-natured and intelligent and can be thirty years old.

Arabian horses were bred by Bedouins and lived with the families in the desert - sometimes they even slept in their tents! In the Tinker are the mighty Shire horse, the powerful Clydesdale, the majestic Friesian and the sure-footed Dales Pony. These were bred by travellers to the UK and Ireland to make for a strong and sturdy pull- and workhorse. At the same time they stayed very much on top of the horses characters. They should be absolutely gentle and reliable. To date, the Tinker is known and loved for these characteristics. It is therefore often used as a therapy horse.
